We finally know when the next Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2023) will take place. This grand event will start again on June 5 and Apple is guaranteed to show new hardware. But what can we expect?
Although WWDC 2023 is mainly aimed at developers, you can always expect the Cupertino tech giant to come up with remarkable news. What do we expect to see this edition?
Finally Apple’s VR/AR headset at WWDC 2023
For some time now, there have been persistent rumors that Apple will release a VR/AR headset. Now it looks like it will definitely be presented at WWDC, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.
And maybe Apple even gave us a hint. On social media it is already bursting with ‘hidden references’ in the poster for WWDC 23. Of course, for this event people are looking cross-eyed for small hints that refer to Apple’s much-discussed AR / VR headset. But are they really there?
Apple has chosen beautiful colorful waves for WWDC 2023. They immediately remind us of the rainbow that can be seen at the headquarters in Cupertino. But there are those who see clear references to the AR/VR headset in it.
Specifically, the WWDC invite resembles what is called a pancake lens array (🥞 yum!), which is often used in… VR goggles.

Other fun toys and updates
In addition to the headset, according to Gurman, Apple also plans to show other new hardware during WWDC 2023. Although he doesn’t explicitly say which new toys, he does indicate that Apple is working on the next machines and they will most likely be released this year.
There will be a new 15-inch MacBook Air, an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, and a new 13-inch and high-end MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, on the Mac side, Apple has yet to replace its latest Intel-based device, the Mac Pro, with an Apple Silicon model, and also has plans to refresh its all-in-one 24-inch iMac.
Either way, Apple VR/AR set is the star of WWDC 2023
All in all, we are of course mainly on the edge of our seats when it comes to Apple’s headset. There is still a (small chance) that we will not see it during WWDC 2023. If this is the case, specialists such as Gurman, but also Ming-Chi Kuo have the following expectations.
The device is said to be called the Reality Pro and will run on a new Apple operating system called xrOS. In January, Bloomberg reported that the headset will have advanced features such as hand tracking, eye tracking, and support for digital avatars in FaceTime calls.
It also gets a digital crown that allows the headset to switch between AR and VR. In addition, it probably has two hours of battery life and must be attached to a separate battery. It probably won’t be a cheap toy: it’s estimated to cost around $3,000.
We’ll see at WWDC 2023 if the Reality Pro is worth it.
