Aston Martin takes classic powertrains back into production

Good news for owners of classic Aston Martins or people who like to spoon a very special powertrain into their car. Aston Martin is putting parts of classic powertrains back into production.

We have known for some time that Aston Martin wants to go to great lengths to preserve its heritage. For example, the British brand came up with the special news three years ago that it was going to build DB5s again in a limited edition. The DB5 had been out of production for 55 years at that point. To make that possible, the British dusted off various old construction drawings, although a modern five-speed manual transmission from ZF was installed, for example. It turned out to be a prelude to more, because now Aston Martin is also reproducing parts for individual sales, as well as for other classic models.

Aston Martin, for example, will again make engine blocks, cylinder heads and gearboxes that have been out of production for decades. It concerns parts for the DB4, DB5, DB6 and ‘some V8 models’. It is not yet known which parts exactly belong to it. It is striking that there are now gearboxes, while the aforementioned new DB5s received a more modern ZF gearbox. According to Aston Martin it is with help from ZFs heritagedepartment to re-release the old transmissions. Full information on parts available and what it should cost is available from Aston Martin on request. You can count on it being quite expensive, but it is a special opportunity.
