Those doubts now seem to have come to an end, because according to the usually reliable Apple analyst Mark Gurman, there will definitely be no iPhone 15 Ultra. Instead, Apple will release the iPhone 15 Pro Max this year. This means that Apple is sticking to the same naming as the iPhone 14. And that is striking, because the iPhone 15 Pro Max is quite different from the iPhone 15 Pro this year.
New features for the iPhone 15 Pro Max
The big difference between the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max this year is more than just the size. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a lot larger, but also gets a new periscope lens. Such a lens is mainly intended to zoom in much further than is currently possible with, for example, the iPhone 14 Pro. With the new camera you can probably zoom in up to 6x, while with the iPhone 14 Pro Max it is up to 3x.
The new periscope lens will only come to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, meaning that for the first time in years the most expensive iPhone will not have the same features as the smaller Pro model. It would therefore not be surprising if Apple chose the iPhone 15 Ultra this year, to indicate that the phone is even better than the iPhone 15 Pro. This plan now appears to have been scrapped, meaning the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be released this year.
