Tata Harrier and Safari under the knife

Did you know that Tata cars in India are driving around on the same platform as cars like the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque? We are talking about the Tata Harrier and Safari. That Indian high-legged duo has now been radically renewed.
In 2018, the Indian manufacturer Tata – also the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover – conjured up a new SUV with the name Harrier. That SUV, like the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport, was on Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 platform. In 2021, Tata launched a completely new Safari for the first time in 23 years. The then new Safari was actually a more spacious brother of the Harrier with a third row of seats and therefore room for more passengers. The Harrier is now more than five years old and is now going under the knife. For convenience, Tata points out the much younger Safari in a similar way.

The Tata Harrier and Safari get a new front with even flatter LED daytime running lights in the top layer of the nose. From now on, they will be optically connected to each other with an LED strip. The actual headlights are lower in the snout, as before. These units have been completely renovated and are a lot smaller than before. Tata makes the lower grille considerably larger and as a result has also redesigned the entire front bumper.

At the rear, the differences between the Harrier and the Safari are greater. The Harrier gets a new rear bumper with a new vertical decorative element above it, apparently containing the rear fog lights and reversing lights. The rear lights are slightly different in shape and have been given a new design. Just like the headlights, the taillights are now connected by an LED strip. Just like the Harrier, the Safari also gets a new rear bumper with vertical decorative elements. The Safari’s rear light units differ – just like before the facelift – from those of its brother with two rows of seats.

The interior of the two SUVs has also been extensively updated. Although the ventilation grilles remain in place, the rest of the dashboard is almost completely overhauled. There is a new touch-sensitive control panel to control the climate control, a new center tunnel, a new steering wheel, new 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch infotainment screens and a new digital instrument cluster. In addition, Tata seems to pay more attention to the way in which the interior can be decorated. Both the Tata Harrier and Safari can be ordered in India as Smart, Pure, Adventure and Fearless. The pair does not change in terms of motor skills. Once again there is a 170 hp and 350 Nm strong 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel that can be connected to a manual gearbox and an automatic transmission.
