Will there still be a new iPad in 2023?

No iPad after all

It was reported this week by several sources: Apple would announce a new iPad on Tuesday, October 17. This was predicted, among others, by an Apple leaker known on X as ‘Majin Bu’.

The generally reliable website 9to5Mac even spoke of several new iPads. This would concern a new iPad Air, iPad mini and 11th generation iPad. According to the website, these were minor upgrades, with a new processor as the most notable improvement.

However, a new iPad was not forthcoming. Instead, Apple announced an iPad accessory via a press release: the new Apple Pencil with USB-C. It is notable that it is less good than the previous Apple Pencil. For example, it has no pressure sensitivity.

Last weekend, Apple insider Mark Gurman reported that no new iPads will be released in October, a prediction that remains accurate. Gurman is perhaps the most renowned Apple analyst, so there’s a good chance he’s right.

Another very reliable Apple forecaster is Ming-Chi Kuo. He even predicted last month that no new iPads will be released at all in 2023. So no new entry-level iPad, but also no new iPad mini, iPad Air or iPad Pro this year.
