At TotalEnergies

Oil company TotalEnergies will also maintain the ceiling on fuel prices in France next year. The price ceiling is part of the French government’s battle against the high cost of living in the country.
TotalEnergies will stick to the maximum petrol price of €1.99 per liter next year, says French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire RTL Radio. Le Maire previously advocated an extension of the maximum price for petrol and diesel of €1.99 per liter and welcomed TotalEnergies’ decision. This means that fuel at the pump must remain affordable in 2024, while inflation in France is still high.
In September, TotalEnergies said that the price limit, which was originally set to expire at the end of 2023, would be extended at all its petrol stations in France after December 31 and would remain in force “as long as prices remain high”. But on October 6, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné threatened that the company could end the price cap if the French government introduced new taxes on the energy sector.
In the Netherlands, the House of Representatives in September canceled an increase in fuel excise duties as of January 1. The government had temporarily reduced excise duties to ease the pain of high energy prices. That discount was supposed to expire at the beginning of 2024, but will now last one year longer.
