Thanks to a smart battery, keyless does not become sleepless or carless

More and more cars are equipped with a so-called keyless entry system and starting is also possible without having to insert a key into an ignition lock. You would think that this is optimal theft protection, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Car thieves are smart and use advanced equipment to copy the electronic signal from the key and happily drive away with your prized possession. This can easily be prevented with a smart, affordable invention that excels in brilliance and simplicity. It will happen to you: you open the curtains in the morning and look at an empty driveway or parking lot. Unfortunately it happens more often than you think. Of the 616 tested cars that the ADAC (the German ANWB) examined, only 44 were protected against relay attack (7%). This means that 93% is not secured and that almost everyone with a keyless car is potentially at risk. That could also be your car.
Stealing without a key, that’s how it works
How can someone open and start your car without having the key? A keyless system works with a signal. The key transmits that, the car receives. Capturing and duplicating that signal is called a relay attack. By simply standing near the front door, the criminals pick up the signal from the key in the pocket of your coat that hangs on the coat rack. They have special equipment for that. Then it is a piece of cake to open the car, start it and then drive away.
Not only young or new cars are victims
You may now be thinking: my car is already quite old, thieves are not interested in that. But older models, which only have keyless unlocking, are also popular prey. Parts such as airbags, steering wheels, audio and infotainment systems and even complete interiors are sought after by the thieves’ guild.
The battery sleeps, so do you: sleeping battery
Possible solutions are to keep the key further away from the front door, store it in a metal box or wrap it in aluminum foil. Some people even put the key in the refrigerator or freezer. Other options include disabling the keyless system for opening and closing or installing an additional steering lock. But why make it difficult when it can be done easily? Car Lock Systems developed the sleeping battery. After 3 minutes of inactivity, the built-in sensor puts the battery of your car key into sleep mode. So no signal is sent anymore, rogue copy cats don’t stand a chance.
The advantages of the sleeping battery
- Fits almost all car keys
- Put the battery in sleep mode after 3 minutes
- Key no longer sends a signal
- No adjustments to the car or key are necessary
- Replaces the CR2032 or CR2450 battery
Here you will find out everything about the super smart sleeping battery.
