Toyota ProAce Max

Toyota’s EV offensive is not limited to the arrival of a series of new electric passenger cars. It is also adding a new large electric commercial vehicle to its range in the form of the Toyota ProAce Max. We now know more about that ordering behemoth.

In mid-November, Toyota released the first images of a completely new member of its commercial vehicle family: the ProAce Max. Just like the recently refreshed smaller ProAce and ProAce City – and their derivative passenger car versions – the ProAce Max is not a product of Toyota itself. While the ProAce City is a sister model to the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Opel Combo and Fiat Doblò and the ProAce shares its base with Stellantis vans such as the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy, the ProAce Max is a sister model to the Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper and Opel Movano. Indeed: the Toyota ProAce Max is actually a Stellantis product to which Toyota has added its own accents.

The fact that the ProAce Max is completely new for Toyota immediately makes the bus both the oldest and newest model in Europe. The Fiat Ducato that serves as the basis has been in operation since 2006. Fortunately for Toyota – and the Stellantis brands – that technical basis has been refined several times over the years. Including in a technical field. Now we can report more about the technology of the Toyota ProAce Max.

The Japanese orderer appears on the market in many formats. There will be three length variants, three height versions and you will soon be able to choose from one of the two wheelbases. The shortest ProAce Max is 5.41 meters long and has 3.45 meters between the front and rear axles. The longest ProAce Max extends over a distance of 6.36 meters and has 4.04 meters between the wheels. In between is a 6 meter long ProAce Max. The three heights are successively 2.25, 2.52 and 2.76 meters high. The loading volume of the smallest ProAce Max is 10 cubic meters. The longest and highest variant fits 17 cubic meters. The electric commercial vehicle is available as a closed van with a single or double cabin, but also as a pick-up with a fixed or tipping loading platform. These ‘open’ versions will also be available in single and double cabin. The loading capacity is – depending on the version chosen – up to 1,500 kilos.

The electric space giant is not entirely surprising – after all, it is one hell of a bus – also the electric Toyota, which manages to squeeze the least number of kilometers out of its kWhs, relatively speaking. The ProAce Max has a 110 kWh battery pack from which a 270 hp and 410 Nm strong electric motor draws its energy. This combination gives the commercial vehicle a range of up to 420 kilometers. Fast charging is possible up to 150 kW.

Toyota’s European branch reports the arrival of 120 hp and 180 hp powerful diesel versions. It is not yet entirely clear what the delivery range in this area will look like in our country. The Toyota ProAce Max will in any case be launched on the market in 2024. There are no Dutch prices yet.
