French German?

Volkswagen and Renault both want to introduce an electric car in the lowest segment in the near future. Maybe together.
Renault recently presented an electric retro reincarnation of the original Twingo. In a few years, the production version should serve the bottom of the EV market. That is to say: Renault is aiming for a starting price of less than €20,000. This puts the new Twingo in Dacia Spring territory. There, the Renault Twingo not only meets its Romanian group partner and a whole series of cars from Stellantis, but also a car from Volkswagen. After all, this also means working with a possible entry-level EV called ID1 in that price range.
Two manufacturers, one goal. Why not collaborate? Well, that may happen. That’s what the German reports Handelsblatt. Volkswagen is said to be in discussions with Renault, among others, about jointly developing the new cheapest EVs. These are not yet advanced discussions, but a first step has reportedly already been made. Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo is no stranger to the Volkswagen Group; After all, he was CEO of Seat for many years. Time will tell whether there will be another French-German partnership in the pipeline after the collaboration between Renault and Mercedes-Benz.
