Nose picking and traffic jam flirting: Dutch motorists like to do it

Let’s be honest: behind the wheel you don’t always spend 100 percent of your time driving. Particularly in traffic jams, some of the attention sometimes goes to other things, including the dirt in your nose or the person in the car next to you. Excuse me? Certainly. Nose picking and traffic jam flirting are high on the to-do list of Dutch motorists.

A study commissioned by Allianz Direct by DirectResearch among 1,179 respondents into the habits of Dutch motorists behind the wheel provides an interesting insight into what we are all doing behind the wheel. Notable things? Certainly. Above all, we appear to be quite honest. No fewer than 39 percent of respondents indicate that they sometimes stick a finger in their nose while driving. Picking their noses is something almost four out of all motorists say they do. A similar percentage (42 percent) indicates that they have also caught other drivers picking their noses. Big Brother is watching you.

It also appears that 1 in 10 motorists sometimes flirts with the driver of a car next to them in a traffic jam. A similar proportion of respondents indicate that they sometimes have a business conversation or even attend a meeting digitally in the car. At the same time, more than three-quarters of respondents indicate that they find it antisocial when drivers use the telephone in the car.

Do you also turn the volume knob of your audio system to the left when parking? Then you are not alone. About a quarter of drivers even turn off the music completely when parking.

Do you have any noticeable habits in the car? We are curious!
