Devastating research results

Daihatsu stops deliveries of new cars worldwide. The decision comes after a damning report on tampering with safety tests by Daihatsu. There were also cars sold as Toyota, Mazda or Subaru.
Last spring, Toyota, as the parent company of Daihatsu, was in deep trouble when it turned out that Daihatsu had cheated in crash tests. Daihatsu appeared to have made adjustments to test cars for several models so that they scored better in safety tests. That affected a series of 88,000 cars it had produced in Thailand and Malaysia in 2022 and 2023. This concerned the Toyota Yaris Ativ, Perodua Axia and Toyota Agya developed by Daihatsu. This was followed by a more extensive investigation into the safety tests of the car brand, which is part of Toyota. The results have now come out and they don’t lie.
According to the investigation, many more cars have had their safety tests tampered with. Researchers found 174 irregularities in 25 different tests. This involved 64 models, not only from Daihatsu, but also from Toyota, Mazda and Subaru. There are no consequences for Europe. The additional irregularities were discovered in the Daihatsu Move, which is not available here, and is also sold as Subaru Stella, the Daihatsu Cast, which is also available as the Toyota Pixis Joy, and the triplet Daihatsu Gran Max/Toyota Town Ace/Mazda Bongo. Parent company Toyota apologizes in a statement for the inconvenience this situation has caused.
