From rear light to coffee table

New Lancia Ypsilon shows nose, tail and interior

The all-new Lancia Ypsilon will be released shortly after New Year’s Eve. The first Lancia in years that can be sold outside Europe already shows four special details.

The Lancia Ypsilon, isn’t that the car that hit the water before it was unveiled? That’s right. These somewhat sad images show that the Lancia Ypsilon will also be just another compact SUV from the Stellantis stable, but that does not alter the fact that the car has some special, unique details. Lancia shows them one by one. This started with the nose, where a vertical light element complements the fashionable LED bar in a recognizable way.

There are round light units under that bar and that round thing is also extensively seen elsewhere in the car. For example, on the rear, which can be seen on the most recent Ypsilon teaser. The way in which round light units are incorporated here in a sleek, straight spoiler edge is clearly transferred from the Pu+Ra concept that the reborn Lancia presented in April. Moreover, this style feature refers to Lancia legend Stratos, because a brand like Lancia must of course continue to celebrate its ‘heritage’.

Coffee table

Judging from the teasers, the interior will also be a different story. For example, Lancia collaborates with furniture maker Cassina and a real coffee table appears in the Ypsilon. At least, something that resembles that. The round ‘table’ seems to protrude from the dashboard under the screen and, in addition to providing a visual spectacle, it also offers a handy place to put your loose junk. Above the ‘table’ is the infotainment screen, containing a system that Lancia has at least provided with its own sauce. Lancia calls the digital environment ‘SALA’. That means ‘living room’ – matching that table – and is the abbreviation of ‘Sound Air Light Augmentation’. According to Lancia, sound, air and light play an important role and can be influenced directly from the basic screen. Hot air? That would certainly fit the theme, but you can count on the fact that the atmosphere on board can be strongly influenced by lighting, among other things. Lancia also promises a simple, easy to understand and tidy infotainment environment, which can be arranged entirely according to your wishes.

The new, electric Lancia Ypsilon will be unveiled in February 2024. Initially it will be a special Cassina version, which will be built in a limited edition of 1906 (the year of Lancia’s birth).
