News for Android Auto: battery information, Chrome browser and digital key

Android cannot be missed at a major tech fair like the CES in Las Vegas. Google’s subsidiary also has some new features for Android Auto.

Android Auto is represented in more and more cars and in some cases (Renault, Volvo and Polestar, for example) it is even integrated as an operating system (Android Automotive). News in that area is certainly interesting for many drivers. During the CES in Las Vegas, Android will once again introduce some innovations.

For example, Google Maps is now able to view the battery status of electric cars and include this in route planning. For example, Maps estimates how much power is left at the end of the journey and where and when you can make charging stops and how much time you will probably spend doing so. This feature will be available first in the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 sometime in the coming months, with more vehicles coming later.

Another interesting news is that the Chrome browser that is familiar to many will also be available in cars with integrated Android Auto. This will be available immediately at Volvo and Polestar and will be rolled out to more cars later this year. More news? Yes, again for cars with Android Automotive. From now on you can look up a route on Google Maps on your phone and then ‘send it to the car’ in the car. For example, you can search for which route you want to drive at home on the couch and then transfer that route to Maps in the car before leaving. Finally, they are working on the rollout of the ‘digital key’, with which you can, among other things, unlock and lock your car with your phone. Here too, Volvo has the scoop.
