MG 3: price-wise promising Polo competitor on the inside

The Geneva Motor Show is the stage on which MG will present an interesting new model later this month. It concerns the new MG 3, a compact hatchback that could easily win many hearts with a friendly starting price.

In January, MG released the first visual fragments of the brand new MG 3 and now it gives the viewer a first glimpse of the interior of its new hatchback. In contrast to all MGs offered in the Netherlands, with the exception of the EHS, the MG 3 will not be an EV.

To be fair, what the MG 3 will look like is no longer a surprise. AutoWeek showed you the new MG 3 from all angles in August last year. The manufacturer speaks of a ‘pure hybrid’ model, although it is not yet entirely clear whether the car will have a mild-hybrid powertrain or a fully hybrid powertrain. Given the fact that in the released interior photo we see a rotary knob that clearly controls an automatic transmission, we suspect that the MG 3 is equipped with a fully hybrid drivetrain.

The MG 3 is also coming to the Netherlands. The Dutch importer previously stated to AutoWeek that it is positioning the car ‘in the heart of the B-segment’. This would make the MG 3 a direct competitor to, among others, the Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio and the conventional versions of the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa. In any case, it gets a digital instrument cluster without a canopy and a large infotainment screen as standard. A layer below that we find an island of buttons that undoubtedly contain some shortcut keys for, among other things, the climate control. On to Geneva!

The current MG 3, which was never delivered in the Netherlands, is now about 13 years old. This 4.05 meter long hatchback came onto the English market in 2011.
