Some users of the latest Apple Watches suffer from so-called ‘Ghost Touches’. Apple is investigating what’s going on.

Apple sent one this week internal memo to Apple Authorized Service Providers. It states that Apple is aware of a problem with the touchscreen of the latest Apple Watches. The company is now investigating the problem, which is now known as ‘Ghost Touches’.

According to Apple, ‘Ghost Touches’ may cause the screen of the affected Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2 to jump irregularly. Other unexpected behavior without the user taking any action is also possible. As a result, it could potentially happen that an Apple Watch unintentionally starts a phone call, or that users can no longer enter the password.

Keep your Apple Watch up to date

So far, Apple advises people dealing with the problem to keep their Apple Watch up to date. This suggests that Apple expects to fix the problem with the next watchOS update. Customers encountering the ‘Ghost Touches’ issue can also try force restarting their Apple Watch. You do this by pressing the digital crown and the side button at the same time for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Apple advises technicians not to repair Apple Watch models that suffer from ‘Ghost Touches’ while the investigation is ongoing. It is not yet known how widespread the problem is and how soon Apple plans to solve it, but it is certainly being worked on.
