Use or disable call detection on AirPods Pro 2nd generation

When you speak to someone spontaneously while listening to music or your favorite podcast, you can take off the earphones or pause the audio to hear them clearly. Thanks to the call detection function, this is no longer necessary.

With this feature, especially for the AirPods Pro 2nd generation, the sound volume is automatically reduced and the transparency mode is enabled as soon as you start talking. This way you can understand your conversation partner well, in every situation.

Call detection for AirPods

When you start talking while wearing your AirPods Pro (2nd generation), Call Detection seamlessly lowers your media volume and improves the voices for you. When your call ends, Call Detection automatically turns up the volume and returns to your original noise cancellation setting.

Change call detection

  • Open Control Center while playing music on the AirPods Pro
  • Place your finger on the volume slider for AirPods
  • Tap ‘Call Detection’
  • Choose ‘On’ or ‘Off’

You can also change the function via Settings â–¸ your AirPods â–¸ Call detection. You can also manually end a call by pressing and holding the AirPods stem or swiping up on the stem.

Automatic switching

This feature automatically lowers the sound volume and enables transparency mode as soon as you start talking. This makes people’s voices a little louder, without being bothered by loud background noise. Annoying background noise is filtered out. Once the call is over, the feature returns to your original noise cancellation setting.
