Fiat 500e factory production reduced for longer due to disappointing demand

Stellantis still has some overcapacity at its Mirafiori factory, where, among other things, the electric Fiat 500e rolls off the production line. Due to disappointing demand, production will continue at a lower level for longer.

Since last summer, reports have regularly surfaced about factories where EV production is being scaled back due to disappointing demand. This was the case, among other things, at the Mirafiori factory, where Fiat even completely halted production in the autumn. It’s happening again at the moment, because less is being built than planned. This production reduction will take longer due to disappointing demand. This is evident from a statement from the UILM trade union, which via Reuters comes to us.

The factory was supposed to operate with a smaller shift from February 12 to March 30, but that period has now been extended to April 20. The lower production affects more than 2,200 factory employees. This week, work would even come to a complete standstill. As mentioned, Fiat mainly builds the electric 500e at the factory, while Maserati assembles the Levante, Ghibli, Quattroporte and the new Gran Turismo. It seems that eventually cars from the Chinese Leapmotor will also roll off the production line. In any case, that would be good news for the employees who now have less work, provided that the demand for Leapmotors is somewhat in line with expectations, of course.
