Heavy morning rush hour due to after-storm Ciara

The aftermath of storm Ciara causes serious traffic jams on the road on Monday morning. Monday the yellow code applies throughout the country, with gusts of wind at 100 kilometers per hour.

At 7:40 am there was about 720 kilometers of traffic jams. Traffic is suffering from heavy gusts of wind, according to an ANWB spokesperson. For example, the A16 towards Breda is closed after a truck has been tilted at the Moerdijk Bridge. The A4 (between Rijswijk and Delft) and the A2 (between Everdingen and Ouderijn) also have long traffic jams due to accidents.

The Oosterscheldekering and N307 are also closed to trailers and trucks. “We ask all motorists to keep an eye on the weather and the traffic information”, says Henk Voerman from Rijkswaterstaat.

The ANWB warns that it can become even busier on the road: “Fortunately, it is not the busiest day or month of the year, but rain and strong gusts of wind will also cause traffic disruption on Monday”, a spokesperson in conversation with NU.nl.

“The ANWB mainly calls on drivers of (empty) vans and trucks to keep a close eye on the weather situation before they hit the road. Motorists with trailers also have to think twice.”
