The i goes to electric models

BMW says goodbye to the i-tje. The letter will not disappear from the model names of its fully electric models, but from the type names of models that come with petrol engines.
A year ago we wrote about new type names that BMW had registered. From this we could conclude that BMW has a lot of plans with the ‘i’ that you encounter in the designations of the engine versions with or without mild-hybrid petrol engines. Think of well-known designations such as 320i or 520i. This i will indeed disappear for petrol models, confirms Bernd Köber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand and Product Management BMW versus BMWBlog. Köber confirms that the new BMW This confirms the suspicions that the ‘i’ will indeed disappear from the type names of petrol Bimmers, although this has not been confirmed by Köber.
Will the ‘i’ still remain for the fully electric models? Certainly. This way the iX1 remains just iX1 and the i4 just i4. Last year, information revealed by BMWBlog revealed that engine versions of electric models will actually get an i. For example, the i4 M50 would soon be called the i450. The BMW M340i could in turn be called M340 or M350, while an electric possible new i3 could perhaps be referred to as i320 or i330.
