New leaked images show a revamped MagSafe on the iPhone 16 series. This is going to change!
iPhone 16 gets a new MagSafe
The French website ShopSystem has acquired molds of the entire iPhone 16 series. It shows a new MagSafe charging ring. The molds also show the changes in the camera layout that we have been expecting for some time.
MagSafe was first introduced on the iPhone 12 and immediately made wireless charging a lot easier and more reliable. Nowadays, many people use the MagSafe feature not only to charge their iPhone, but also to magnetically attach it to a holder.
The system works with a ring of magnets and coils. If the iPhone 16 molds that the French site obtained are real, then Apple appears to have succeeded in reducing the thickness of that ring with the updated MagSafe. The image below shows a comparison between the molds of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro:

Compatibility iPhone 16
The image clearly shows that the ring of the updated MagSafe has become slightly thinner, giving it a smaller outer diameter. ShopSystem suggests that this could possibly mean that accessory manufacturers will have to adjust their chargers, but this is not very likely. The iPhone 16 line-up with updated MagSafe will undoubtedly remain compatible with all existing MagSafe and Qi2 chargers.
In addition to the updated MagSafe, the molds also show the vertical camera layout we expect for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. This will most likely bring spatial video recording capabilities to the entire lineup. This video material is suitable for the Apple Vision Pro.
