Apple has unveiled the iPad Pro 2024! The tablet has the extremely powerful M4 chip, an OLED screen and a thinner design. We will tell you everything about the new tablet!
This is the iPad Pro 2024
Apple has finally released new iPads! At the first event of the year, Apple announced the iPad Pro 2024. The tablet has a new design and has an OLED display for the first time. That’s not all, because Apple has also made changes to the tablet’s camera.
The biggest update is under the hood of the iPad Pro 2024, because the tablet has the extremely powerful M4 chip. This is Apple’s first device to run on this processor. This makes the iPad Pro 2024 much faster and more advanced than the iPad Pro 2022. Do you want to know more about Apple’s latest and best tablet? We will tell you all about the new features of the iPad Pro 2024!
Overview
New M4 chip
Without a doubt the most important change with the iPad Pro 2024: Apple’s new M4 chip. We have never seen this processor in an Apple device before. It is a major update for the iPad Pro, because the previous generation still ran on the M2 chip. Apple therefore skips the M3 chip on the iPad Pro and immediately equips the tablet with the most powerful and fastest processor of the moment. According to Apple, the M4 chip is no less than 50 percent faster than the M2 chip.
Moreover, the M4 chip can handle the same tasks as the M2 chip, with only 50 percent of the power. With the M4 chip, the iPad Pro 2024 can handle multiple tasks at the same time, so you can easily multitask with the tablet. Gaming also works a lot better thanks to ray tracing on the tablet.
That’s not all, because the new processor prepares the tablet for all AI functions that Apple is introducing this year. These heavy AI functions have been taken into account in the M4 chip. We will probably hear exactly what features we can expect at the WWDC in June, when Apple unveils iOS and iPadOS 18.
Much thinner design
Apple has adjusted the design of the iPad Pro for the first time in years. This has to do with the new screen, because it is much thinner than previous displays. This has allowed Apple to make the entire casing of the iPad Pro 2024 a lot slimmer. The 11-inch version has gone from 5.9 mm to 5.3 mm, the 13-inch version even from 6.4 mm to 5.1 mm.
This makes the tablet the thinnest Apple device ever. According to Apple, the iPad Pro 2024 is even thinner than the iPod, making it easy to take the device with you. It is striking that the larger version of the iPad Pro 2024 is even thinner than the 11-inch version.
New OLED screen
Another important change with the iPad Pro 2024 is the new OLED display. While the 13-inch version of the previous generation had a mini-LED screen, the 11-inch version even had an LCD screen. Apple has opted for an OLED screen for the iPad Pro 2024, in both the small and large versions. A major improvement, giving the tablet better contrast and greater color accuracy. The new screen has a peak brightness of 1000 Nits, for HDR content this is 1600 Nits.
Apple has opted for a slightly larger screen this year with the iPad Pro 2024. The tablet has thinner screen edges, making the displays slightly larger. The small version still has an 11-inch screen, the larger version has a 13-inch display. This makes the largest screen even larger than the previous generation of the iPad Pro. The housing of the device is not larger due to the thinner screen edges.
New camera features on the iPad Pro 2024
Apple has unveiled new camera features with the iPad Pro 2024. The tablet has a 12-megapixel camera on the back, which we previously saw on the previous generation of the iPad Pro. We see a small change on the front of the tablet. The front camera of the iPad Pro 2024 has been placed on the long side of the device for the first time. If you place the tablet in landscape mode, the camera is exactly in the middle of the top.
A useful new camera function is the multicam function. The feature allows you to connect up to four iPhone cameras to the iPad Pro 2024. You will then see all four camera angles on the tablet screen. Apple has introduced a new app for this purpose, Final Cut Camera. Editing photos and videos is easy with the new M4 chip. This makes the tablet suitable for professional image editing.
Magic Keyboard has been updated
The iPad Pro 2024 has received a major update, but that’s not all. Apple has also updated the accessories. Apple has introduced a new Magic Keyboard with the iPad Pro 2024. The updated keyboard has a larger trackpad. The smaller trackpad was one of the biggest annoyances with the previous Magic Keyboard, so this is a welcome change.
In addition, the design of the new Magic Keyboard has been slightly adjusted. With the updated design, the iPad Pro looks even more like a laptop, once the keyboard is connected. With the Magic Keyboard, the iPad Pro is a middle ground for users who like to use a laptop, but also want a tablet with a touchscreen. The new 11-inch Magic Keyboard is available for 349 euros and the new 13‑inch Magic Keyboard is available for 399 euros.
