Apple has released iOS 17.5, which brings a number of new features to your iPhone. Here’s what’s changing in the latest iOS update!
Apple releases iOS 17.5
Another update is available for your iPhone! With iOS 17.5, Apple is bringing important changes to your iPhone, so you will no longer need an online store to install an app. In addition, Apple has made minor adjustments, so iOS 17.5 is not as big an update as iOS 17.4. Still, new features are coming to your iPhone. This is them!

1.Web distribution
In the European Union, starting with iOS 17.5, you can install apps directly on your iPhone from a developer’s website. Apple announced that last month Web distribution would come to the iPhone as a result of the new European legislation. Installing apps is not easy, because to use the feature, developers must agree to the App Store’s new business terms.
So any app distributed over the web must still comply with Apple’s guidelines. Apps can only be installed from a website domain that the developer has registered in App Store Connect. For the time being, there are no developers who offer an app via their own website, but that will probably change soon now that iOS 17.5 is available for the iPhone.

2.Repair Condition
The new Repair State is – as the name suggests – developed for situations in which your iPhone needs to be repaired. For certain repairs, your smartphone must be sent to Apple. Your device will be examined there and the correct part will be replaced. Where you previously had to adjust your settings before sending your iPhone, this is no longer the case with iOS 17.5.
Now you just have to Repair State to enable. Previously, you had to turn off ‘Find My’ and ‘Stolen Device Protection’ when sending an iPhone to Apple. After the update, this is no longer mandatory. The new feature allows Apple employees to confirm who the phone belongs to and begin the repair. From iOS 17.5 you can always keep an eye on the location of your iPhone, even if it is sent to Apple.
3. New wallpapers
Every year, Apple releases a new Pride wallpaper for the iPhone. This year, a new, colorful background has been added to the ever-expanding collection. Starting with iOS 17.5, you can select the new wallpaper on your iPhone. Apple has also unveiled a new watch face for the Apple Watch and the iPad is also not left behind with a new wallpaper. Check out the Pride wallpaper here!

4. New anti-stalking feature
In iOS 17.5, Apple introduced a new feature to tackle unwanted tracking. You previously received a notification if an unknown AirTag was traveling with you, but this has now been expanded to non-Apple trackers. You will also receive a notification from now on if it concerns a tracker from Kruidvat or another provider, for example. It is therefore possible to switch off the tracker.

5. Small adjustments in the design
Finally, Apple has made a number of minor design changes to iOS 17.5 on the iPhone. For example, the Reading Goal icon in Apple Books has been updated, passkeys has a new icon in settings and the Apple Podcasts widget has been adjusted. These are small changes that you probably won’t even notice if you don’t pay attention.

Next update iOS 18?
Now that iOS 17.5 is available for the iPhone, we are one step closer to iOS 18. It is quite possible that Apple’s next major update will be iOS 18. Apple unveils the new (AI) features for the iPhone at WWDC, the main presentation takes place on Monday June 10 2024. Then we’ll hear more about the iPhone’s reported biggest update ever.
Unfortunately, we have to wait a little longer for the final version of iOS 18, because it will not be released until September. Before then, Apple will probably release an interim update for the iPhone, it is quite possible that iOS 17.6 will follow. Then there will probably be no more new features coming to the iPhone. Apple only fixes software problems in that update. Want to know more about the features coming to your iPhone with iOS 18? Then read all about the update here!
