These Apple devices won’t get Apple Intelligence (here’s why)

Apple Intelligence only comes to a limited number of devices, meaning many products have to make do without the new technology. Apple Intelligence is coming to these devices!

Apple Intelligence, Apple’s latest technology that works with artificial intelligence, was unveiled at WWDC 2024. Almost all Apple apps are expanded with Apple Intelligence, so you get a standard writing assistant to rewrite and summarize texts. In addition, Siri becomes much smarter, through the integration of ChatGPT and support for advanced (written) commands.

Apple Intelligence is coming to the iPhone, iPad and Mac, but not all devices are expanded with Apple’s latest software. This has to do with the computing power required to perform all the heavy tasks that work with artificial intelligence. Only devices with the best processors will therefore support Apple Intelligence. We put them together for you.

Supported devices

Apple Intelligence only comes to devices with the M1 chip, the A17 Pro chip or newer. This is a disappointment, especially with the iPhone, because only the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max run on the A17 Pro chip. The new AI technology therefore comes to only two versions of the entire iPhone series. The iPad and Mac do have support for more generations. No AI for HomePod and Apple Watch

The usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman has now announced that Apple Intelligence is also coming to the Vision Pro. However, there are many devices that are not (for the time being) expanded with Apple Intelligence, for example the HomePod (mini), the Apple TV and the Apple Watch have to make do without the technology. These devices run on an S or A chip from Apple, which is not powerful enough for all AI functions. It is expected that the next HomePod and the Apple Watch X will work with Apple Intelligence.

Unfortunately, it comes Apple Intelligence so not to all iPhones that run on iOS 18. In Europe, we also have to wait longer for the new AI functions, as a result of new European legislation.
