iOS 18: This feature is only available on iPhone 16 (Pro)

Apple released iOS 18 in September, but not all features work on older iPhones. This feature of iOS 18 is exclusive to the iPhone 16!

In September, Apple brought many new features to your iPhone with iOS 18. You have more freedom in arranging your home screen and the Control Center, the photo library has a new design and iMessage has support for text effects. The biggest changes are yet to come, because Apple Intelligence is not yet available. The iPhone 16 also has to make do without the most important functions of iOS 18.

In iOS 18, almost every app is expanded with Apple Intelligence. You will receive a writing assistant who can summarize or rewrite texts. Siri also becomes much smarter and you can create your own pictures and emoji with Image Playground and Genmoji. Only the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) and the iPhone 16 series have support for Apple Intelligence. Yet one feature in iOS 18 is exclusive to the iPhone 16 (Plus) and the iPhone 16 Pro (Max).

Visual Intelligence

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max work with Apple Intelligence, but have to do without Visual Intelligence. This feature will only come to the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with a later version of iOS 18. With Visual Intelligence, the Camera app works with artificial intelligence, allowing your iPhone to recognize objects and locations when you capture them with the camera.

For example, with the help of Visual Intelligence, it is possible to recognize a dog breed when you photograph a dog, or you can add an event to your agenda by simply scanning a flyer. Do you want to go eat somewhere? Then point the camera at a restaurant to get reviews and opening hours. This feature will probably come to the iPhone 16 (Plus) and iPhone 16 Pro (Max) next year with a new version of iOS 18.

Function works with camera controller

It is not very strange that Visual Intelligence only comes to the iPhone 16 series, because the iOS 18 function works with the camera controller. That is a completely new button, which we only see on the iPhone 16 models. The camera controller gives you access to almost all camera functions. This is how you open the Camera app, take a photo or video and zoom in and out with the new controller.

Visual Intelligence will be added next year. In a later version of iOS 18, you can press the button’s camera control to get information about an object or location.
