Some confusion has arisen about the corporate structures of CFMOTO and Pierer Industrie AG, the parent company of KTM, among others, which is currently in extremely difficult times. Reason for CFMOTO Benelux importer BW Import Europe to provide clarity about this.
CFMOTO is an independent brand and is not part of Pierer Industrie AG. Although both companies are active in the motorcycle industry, they operate completely autonomously from each other. CFMOTO is a Chinese manufacturer known for its motorcycles, ATVs and other recreational vehicles, and also owns the urban mobility brand Zeeho.
In contrast, Pierer Industrie AG is an Austrian group that operates the KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas brands, among others, and focuses on a wide range of motorcycles and sports vehicles.
In 2011, a commercial partnership was initiated by CFMOTO and KTM, which led to a Joint Venture in 2017 that enabled the production and sale of KTM motorcycles in China under the name “KTMR2R”. In addition, assembly of the new parallel twin, launched in mid-2018, was carried out by CFMOTO, as well as the small KTM.
In December last year, Pierer announced that it would move more of its production to India (Bajaj) and China (CFMOTO). Since then, the storm has only intensified and it is currently 5 to 12. Pierer has until the end of February to come up with a restructuring plan to avoid insolvency.
CFMOTO has no involvement in the recent restructuring or internal processes of Pierer Industrie AG.
In recent communications about the restructuring, an image was shared, from which one could possibly conclude that CFMOTO and Zeeho would be part of Pierer Industrie AG. However, this is incorrect.
CFMOTO and Zeeho are not part of Pierer Industrie AG, but Pierer Industrie AG is locally active in the distribution of their products in several countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom. This explains why CFMOTO and Zeeho are visible in the overview.
