If you’ve had an AirTag for a while, you’ve probably had to replace the battery at least once. The CR2032 button cell battery in the AirTag has an average lifespan of one year. Then you need to open the AirTag and replace the battery.

Replacing the battery is not that difficult, you press the AirTag and then open it. You must make sure that you have a button cell battery that does not have a special coating on it. This coating is applied to some batteries to prevent children from swallowing the battery.

Of course, you should not forget to regularly check the condition of the battery in the AirTag. Nothing is more annoying than checking your AirTag in Find My when you’ve lost something, only to find that the battery has died.

Fortunately, there is now a solution for that. Elevation Lab has created a new accessory for the AirTag, called TimeCapsule ($19.99). This suddenly makes the battery life of the AirTag ten times longer (10 years).

You no longer have to replace the tracker’s battery every year. The TimeCapsule comes in handy especially when you use multiple AirTags to track certain things for a longer period of time.

You put the AirTag in the device, together with two AA batteries. After that, your AirTag can last for about ten years! Also useful to know: the TimeCapsule is completely waterproof. So you can safely submerge it. There is a disadvantage, because it is somewhat larger than an AirTag. So if you want to hang the AirTag (with TimeCapsule) on your key ring, you have to take that into account.
