iOS 18.5 is coming: these are the new features

The release of iOS 18.5 is getting closer. The ‘release candidate’ will probably be available this week. That is the last test version for the official release. After the RC appears, it usually takes less than a week before the real version arrives. The official version will probably be available next week next week.

Unfortunately, there are not many new features in the update, but there are still a few small new functions to spot. We put them under each other.

1. New background

May is always Pride Month at Apple and that means a new band for the Apple Watch. But that’s not the only thing. There will therefore also be a new dial and background for your iPhone in iOS 18.5. The new wallpaper is very beautiful this time. The design moves smoothly when you lift, rotates or unlocks the iPhone.

2. New options in mail

Mail has received a number of new features with Apple Intelligence and in iOS 18.5 another one has been added. When you look at the list of e-mails you will see a small image (in English ‘Contact photos’) with each message. You could already turn these images off, but that option was hiding in the settings of your iPhone.

With iOS 18.5, this option can now be set out immediately in the Mail app. You do that by tapping the three dots with an open mailbox. Then you remove the check mark at ‘Show Contact Photos’.

Unfortunately we do not yet have the Apple Intelligence functions in the Netherlands. So you don’t have much to do this feature yet. But if Apple’s AI also comes to the iPhone here, then it is nice that this option is immediately available.

3. Information about AppleCare

A small improvement is that information about AppleCare+ has now been given a more prominent place. With AppleCare+ your iPhone is insured for repair or replacement. That means that you are well covered even in accidents. You still pay a deductible of 29 euros for a broken iPhone screen or cracked back. For other types of damage you pay 99 euros.
