iOS 19
The first new features of iOS 19 have been announced! The WWDC is only in June, but Apple has already revealed the first functions of iOS 19. They are mainly accessibility functions that are useful for all users of the iPhone. Because of this announcement we have a first idea of ​​the changes, which will come to the iPhone later this year. We put the new features among each other for each other!
1. Better explanation in the App Store
From iOS 19, the App Store receives new labels, which indicate which features an application has. With these labels it is clear for which users an app is suitable. In the new description you see, for example, whether the application offers support for functions such as VoiceOver, text enlargement, reduced movement and even more accessibility settings. In iOS 19 you will find the new framework for an app in the App Store under ‘Accessibility’.
2. Braille
With iOS 19, the iPhone receives support for Braille script. That means that the notes app Braille understands and can even translate. Performing calculation is also possible in Braille from iOS 19. In addition, live texts can be converted to Braille via the iPhone. We see these functions for Braille in the entire Apple ecosystem, so also on the iPad and Mac (book).
3. Improved reader display
The reader display on the iPhone is intended to display websites in Safari more clearly (and often easier). With iOS 19, this display is improved, because Apple adds a number of features to make the text easier to read. This way you can determine the size, color and font of the text yourself. In iOS 19, the Reader display in every application is available, because the function is built into the magnifying glass. This makes reading and understanding texts easier for all users.
4. Personal voice
With iOS 17, Apple introduced ‘personal voice’ on the iPhone. This function is intended for people who are in danger of losing their voice, they can produce a digital voice via the iPhone. A user had to speak no fewer than 150 sentences for that, but that will change with iOS 19. You only have to speak in ten sentences, then the voice is created within a minute. According to Apple, this voice from iOS 19 works smoother and more natural.
5. Head tracking comes to the iPhone
In 2024, Apple Eye brought tracking to the iPhone. With that function it is possible to control the iPhone through your eyes. You only have to look at a certain point on the screen, the iPhone then responds to that. With iOS 19 a similar feature is added, because the phone is being expanded with head tracking. So you can also operate your iPhone with head gestures.
6. More accessibility functions
Apple has unveiled the first features of iOS 19, but that is by no means everything. The company has also announced accessibility functions for Watchos, MacOS and iPados. As a result, we have an idea what improvements will come to the Apple Watch, Mac (book) and iPad later this year. These changes have been presented by Apple:
- Magnifying glass Comes to the Mac (book);
- Apple Watch receives support for Live captions;
- Mac (book) is being expanded with Vehicle Motion Cues;
- Renewed Apple TV app for improved accessibility;
- Haptic Feedback With music on the iPhone can be adjusted;
- Get all Apple devices Name recognition To recognize the user’s name in the area;
- Carplay gets support for larger text and improved sound recognition;
- Accessibility settings From the iPhone and iPad can be shared.
Release of iOS 19
The WWDC 2025 is only next month, but Apple has already unveiled the first functions of iOS 19. We know which more features come to iOS 19 Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m. (Dutch time). That evening Apple presents the most important software updates of the year, including iOS 19, iPados 19, MacOS 16 and Watchos 12. With those updates, the accessibility features will probably also be available.
The definitive release of iOS 19 will take longer, because the software version will only be published in September. The first test version of iOS 19 will be published next month, which will be announced immediately after the announcement of the operating system.
