Paid version of WhatsApp
Millions of free apps are available on the iPhone. One of those applications is WhatsApp, but that was not always the case. That is a big difference with the current version of WhatsApp, which can be used for free. Users with an iPhone had to pay until 2013 to install WhatsApp. The messaging service became free that year to download, but not to use. The first year WhatsApp could be used free of charge on the iPhone, after which a one euro subscription had to be taken out. Only in 2016 was that subscription abolished.
Does WhatsApp stay free?
After abolishing the subscription, WhatsApp can be used for free. There is little chance that that will change, because the messaging service has to do with more and more competition. For example, Signal and Telegram have become more popular in recent years, certainly because WhatsApp and parent company Meta have a bad name in the field of privacy. A paid version of WhatsApp would probably only play this competition in the card.
It is therefore expected that WhatsApp will remain free to use. Yet it is possible that in addition to this free variant, there will also be a paid version of WhatsApp. Meta has introduced similar subscriptions to Instagram and Facebook. If you pay for these services, you will not see any ads and you will get more benefits. WhatsApp may also get such an option, but that is by no means the case.
WhatsApp Business has already been paid
Incidentally, not all whatsapp services can be used for free, because the WhatsApp Business API is already a paid version of the messaging service. WhatsApp Business API is intended for medium -sized and large companies, who want to manage and maintain customer relationships via WhatsApp. In this way, companies can send automated messages and process customer questions, but that costs money.
The monthly subscription costs of WhatsApp Business API depend on the provider. So there is already a paid version of WhatsApp, but it is not intended for the average user. It is expected that WhatsApp will remain free of charge to use, but the question remains in which form is paid. That is now happening in the form of data, later advertisements may be added. In any case, the chance is that you will ever have to deposit money for WhatsApp again.
