With a subscription you often get the latest iPhones much cheaper at home. Taking out a subscription is therefore an easy way to save a lot of money on your next iPhone. There are various options to find the cheapest iPhone subscription, which best suits your needs. Curious about which factors you should take into account? We put them under each other!

This way you will find the cheapest iPhone subscription

How do you easily find the cheapest iPhone subscription?

1. Do you choose SIM-only or a new iPhone?

When taking out a new subscription for the iPhone you have two options. You can opt for a Sim Only subscription, where you only get a new SIM card. In that case you will receive a new subscription, but you will continue to use the same iPhone. This is especially a good option if your smartphone is not yet due for replacement, because a SIM only subscription is often the cheapest. You only pay every month for the subscription, not for a new iPhone.

Does your phone need replacement? Then choose a subscription, where you can choose a new iPhone. With these subscriptions you often get a lot of discount on the device, so you get your next phone much cheaper at home. Keep in mind that this is accompanied by higher monthly costs, because you pay for the subscription and the telephone. In general, this is cheaper than purchasing a separate iPhone. Another advantage is that you do not have to pay the entire device price in one go.

2. Which iPhone suits you best?

If you opt for a subscription with a new iPhone, it’s time to determine which device suits you best. Apple’s newest devices are the iPhone 16th, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. For the newer iPhones you pay more subscription costs than for older models. Are you looking for the cheapest iPhone subscription? Then we recommend opting for an iPhone 15 or earlier.

In our buying advice you can read which iPhone suits you best. When choosing the execution, also take into account the storage space of the iPhone. The more storage space you choose, the higher the monthly payments will be. Often you don’t need much storage space at all, especially in combination with a subscription to iCloud. Therefore choose the basic model, so that you are sure that you will receive a cheap iPhone subscription.

3. How many calling minutes and data do I need?

Consider carefully for yourself whether you call a lot before you choose a certain subscription. You can take out a cheap iPhone subscription, but if you call your bundle every month, you will still lose a lot of money at the end of the ride. The same applies to SMS, although many providers nowadays offer unlimited SMSs and standard. Take a good look at the conditions of the various subscriptions and compare offers.

In addition, think carefully how much data you use. Experience shows: the faster the mobile internet, the higher the consumption and the more data you need. Of course there are still gradations in use: if you want to stream music and video, then you don’t have enough at 1 GB. The same applies if you use 5G; A data bundle of more than 5 GB is then recommended. On the other hand, you need 1 GB enough if you are little internet and often connected to WiFi.

With many providers your speed is reduced or you have to pay extra when your data bundle is used up. In the first case you can still email and send messages via WhatsApp, but usually no longer decent the internet. So keep that in mind. If you are a large consumer, you can consider the unlimited subscriptions. Especially check your consumption through your current provider or telephone settings, because that is a good indication for the subscription that best suits your needs.

4. Do I need 5G internet super fast?

In more and more places in the Netherlands and Belgium it is possible to use 5G. Most providers offer national coverage, although some smaller (so -called virtual) providers in this area are still left behind. With those providers you cannot (everywhere) go on the internet super fast.

Keep in mind that you use more data with 5G faster and therefore need a larger bundle. Because surfing goes faster, you are inclined to make more use of it. If you are not careful, your data bundle will soon be up, especially if you use data-intensive services such as Videoland, Netflix and YouTube and regularly download apps and games.

For those who occasionally e -mail and surf the web, 5G is not necessarily necessary. If you are on WiFi the majority of time, then a smaller data bundle of 1 GB is no problem. If you are a demanding user who is online all day, then a large data bundle and a fast internet connection are recommended. Incidentally, in most cases, 4G is also more than sufficient, especially in areas that do not yet have optimum 5G coverage.

5. Can I benefit from customer benefits?

Do you already have the internet from the same provider at home? Then you regularly receive a discount on your mobile subscription. That is not all, because you also regularly get other benefits, such as extra data, a free streaming service or an extra television package. You will receive this customer benefit if you already have a fixed internet subscription and take out a mobile subscription.

This advantage can be interesting when choosing a cheap iPhone subscription. In the Netherlands, most large providers offer customer advantage, with a combination of fixed and mobile internet. Please note, because you often only get these benefits if the fixed and mobile services are combined at the same address and are in the name of one household. When choosing the cheapest iPhone subscription, view the customer benefits first.

6. Do I have to extend or take out a new iPhone subscription?

Do you already have a mobile subscription that you are satisfied with? Nevertheless, it is advisable to look further at alternatives. If you decide to extend you may save connection costs that you will pay if you switch to another provider. These connection costs are often on the low side, which ultimately saves you more if you opt for the cheapest iPhone subscription with a new provider.

Therefore, check whether your current provider has the best deal for you. Compare the monthly costs with the monthly costs with other providers. Can you get the newest iPhone at a lower price at another provider? Or do you get a customer benefit there, because you already have a fixed internet subscription with that provider? In that case we recommend switching and choosing the cheapest iPhone subscription. This way you save a lot of money in the long term.

7. Is it best to take out a subscription via a provider or webshop?

When choosing whether you order a subscription with iPhone from the provider itself or via a webshop, it is important to compare. In many cases, providers only sell the latest models, while at some web shops you can also go for iPhones that are no longer available at providers and at Apple. In many cases you order those devices with attractive discounts. Webshops often have good iPhone offers in combination with a subscription, making it worthwhile to compare them with the current promotions of providers.

It is important to calculate what you have lost over the entire duration of the subscription for your iPhone. Certainly because many promotions and offers are only valid for a few months, after which you still pay the full amount for your subscription. Sometimes it is smarter to pay a little more and go for a lower monthly amount. Compare prices well and over the total duration (12 or 24 months), to prevent you from paying too much for your iPhone subscription.

8. How do I prevent a BKR registration and how much do I want to pay per month?

Since 2017 we have known the BKR registration when purchasing iPhones with a subscription. The lower limit is a device amount of 250 euros. Is the credit amount above? Then you get a so-called BKR registration. You can see this during your order by filling in an income and burden test. All providers are legally obliged to ask you these questions. In this way information has been collected about the size of the subscription and whether it is financially feasible for you.

If you can pay the monthly amount without any problems, there is nothing wrong. Is it not going well? Then it is recorded that you experience or have experienced payment problems. Other lenders can then check this. In that case the rule applies: preventing is better than cure.

Do you want to prevent a BKR registration? If you opt for an iPhone with a device price of 250 euros or less, you can escape this registration. Unfortunately, an iPhone almost always has a higher device price. In that case we recommend paying (part of) the device price in advance. This way you bring the credit amount of the iPhone with subscription back to 250 euros or lower. You do not have to take an income test and you prevent a BKR registration.
