TVOS 26 will receive a large software update this year-these are the three functions that are expected to be announced during the WWDC.
TVOS 26 gets 3 new functions
This year, the Apple TV 4K benefits from the growing success of Apple TV+, with both new hardware and software. TVOS 26 will be the next major software update and it looks like Apple will announce these three new functions on 9 June.
1. A new design
One of the highlights of Apple’s announcements during the WWDC 2025 is a new design for all software platforms. iOS 26, MacOS 26 and iPados 26 receive a new design with glassy elements that are inspired by Visionos.
TVOS 26 also gets new functions and a new look, with renewed buttons and icons. The biggest changes are probably for iOS 26, but the Apple TV 4K will still take over part of the new design.
2. A new Games app
Apple wants to stimulate gaming on all its platforms, and therefore comes with a new, platform-dependent ‘games’ app that also becomes available on TVOS 26. The idea is to combine the existing functions of Game Center and the App Store in one new Hub, with a few extra functionalities. The new Games app offers, among other things:
- A hub for starting your TVOS games.
- Editorial content to stimulate the discovery of games.
- Game performance that you have achieved or can try to achieve.
- Social functions such as scoreboards.
- The possibility to download new games.
3. WiFi synchronization
Mark Gurman van Bloomberg has said That iOS 26 WiFi synchronization, which means that you only have to connect to a WiFi network on one device, and then gain access to all devices. This is one of the functions in which he specifically mentions iPhone, iPad and Mac as devices that support this function, but we expect it will also be available on Apple TV 4K with TVOS 26.
Due to the lack of a browser, TVOS currently has the most complicated method to access a WiFi networks. The new synchronization function should completely bypass that.
More TVOS 26 Functions
Siri certainly gets ai-upgrades on the Apple TV 4K. But it will probably not be a new function of TVOS 26 yet. There is a good chance that new Apple TV 4K hardware is needed before Siri can get an AI upgrade. And Apple will probably only bring the next generation of Apple TV 4K to the market later this year.
Nevertheless, it is always possible that Apple presents a renewed Siri, or another new TVOS 26 function with AI. But we probably only see the entire AI-upgrades at a later time.
