Apple is working on a function for the iPhone Air that has to extend the battery life of the device, but the iPhone 17 Air does not get it yet.
iPhone Air gets handy new function
It has not been news for a while that the upcoming iPhone 17 Air will get a much worse battery life than the other iPhones from that series. Tests from Apple itself show that many users with the iPhone 17 Air would not even get through a whole day.
The shorter battery life is clearly a thorn in the eye. For example, Apple was already planning to bring the Smart Battery Case back, especially for the iPhone 17 Air. In the meantime, thanks to a new function, Apple has devised a different solution for the iPhone Air. And that is a very new, energy -efficient screen. The bad news is that this new technology is not expected to be implemented until 2027.

An energy -efficient screen
There is a new OLED display technique that uses less power, which means that the battery lasts longer. Apple currently uses that technology in the Apple Watch Series 10. It is just not easy and, moreover, very expensive to scale up the technology to larger screens. According to rumors, Apple is discussing this with screen suppliers. If it continues, it will only be integrated into one model due to cost reasons. The iPhone Air is of course the logical candidate for a screen with this new function.
All current iPhones use LTPO TFT OLED. In addition, oxide is applied to some transistors, but not all. When oxide is applied to all transistors, this will considerably reduce power consumption. It only requires more complex production and is therefore much more expensive.
iPhone screens are made by Samsung and LG, and both companies should adjust their production lines to make this change possible. That is why Apple will have to make a decision, which will probably happen later this year. The iPhone 19 Air of 2027 may therefore have a good battery life again thanks to this function!
