The iPhone 17 Air becomes Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever. But behind that new design also lies an annoying disadvantage.
This will be the biggest disadvantage of the iPhone 17 Air
We don’t have to wait a long time for the new iPhones, because in September a total of four new devices will arrive. One is the iPhone 17 Air, an extra thin device. With this device, however, there is a large adder. The battery appears to be much smaller than we are used to from Apple.

Small battery for the thinnest iPhone
According to different sources, the iPhone 17 Air will probably get a battery of only around 2,800 mAh. That doesn’t sound so bad, but if you are going to compare this with other iPhones, it is a shock. The iPhone 16 has a 3,651 mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 plus has a 4,674 mAh. Apple probably opts for the smaller battery to keep the iPhone 17 Air extra thin.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will implement a few improvements to improve the battery life. The new chip will probably be a bit more economical, and there is a new ‘adaptive power mode’ in iOS 26 that helps you to do a battery charge for a little longer. But whether that is enough to compensate for the smaller battery?

In addition, there are also rumors that Apple will come up with a special battery cover for the iPhone 17 Air. This case is not new, because this is actually the Smart battery case What they stopped a few years ago. This is a case for the iPhone where a battery was built in.
iPhone 17 Air Release
The iPhone 17 Air will undoubtedly become a beautiful (and slim) device, but the thin design does come with a disadvantage. Hopefully Apple can add enough improvements, so that you can do a whole day with one battery charge.
The iPhone 17 Air appears somewhere in September 2025 together with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. An iPhone 17 Plus is not going to come. Do you not want to miss any rumor of the iPhone 17? Then register for our newsletter, so that you will always stay informed!
