Unaltered hardware
The weather station Original has remained unchanged in the field of hardware. So no extra sensors have been added. Even the Micro-USB connection and WiFi connectivity have remained unchanged. New health -oriented functions
The Netatmo app in combination with the new weather station Original adds a number of health-oriented functions. For example, the app now shows the UV index in real time, including warnings when the sun power becomes dangerous. You will receive notifications as soon as the risk of sunscreen increases, which is especially useful for families with children or people who work a lot outside. In addition, the app predicts the sun intensity for the next 24 hours.
Another important addition is the Pollenvoorspeling. The app now indicates how high the concentrations are of grass pollen, tree pollen and weeds, spread over five clear levels of ‘no’ to ‘very high’.
However, this data is not measured by the weather station itself, but come from external weather and health services and AI models. Although the information is reliable, it is of course not measured locally.
For example, if you live in a wooded area or if you are allergic to a specific grass species in your garden, you will not get an exact measurement at home, but rather a regional estimate. We think that is a shame; On the contrary, it would be interesting if sensors could measure the situation in your own garden or immediate surroundings, so that you could also share this data with other Netatmo users in the area.
Netatmo, due to the combination of the existing air quality measurements with the new UV and pollen information, ensures a more complete weather and a better estimate of the impact on your health.
However, you will also find the UV and air quality information in the standard weather app from iOS. You will also find multiple (free) apps in the App Store for pollen information.
Use automation
For those who like to use smart automation, there is compatibility with HomeKit, Alexa and Google Home. Advanced users can add the device to Home Assistant and Homey. This way you can easily integrate the Netatmo weather station into your smart home and you can use automation. For example, you can set that the ventilation is automatically started at a too high COâ‚‚ level, or that the air conditioning switches on if it gets too hot.

When you purchase a new version of the weather station to replace the old one, you will lose the historic measurement data.
