Translate live with AirPods
With the live translation function for AirPods in iOS 26, it is possible for users to have direct conversations translated into a language they understand. For example, communication with people who speak a different language becomes easier, for example while traveling, at work or in international companies. You immediately hear the translation in your ears, so that language barriers disappear and you can communicate with others smoother.

Translation function Activate AirPods
The image above suggests that you can activate the live translation function by pressing or holding both stalks of the AirPods. Once the function is active, conversations in real time are translated into the language you have set as a standard. You immediately hear the translated text via your AirPods. Your conversation partner can, if possible, also activate the function on the AirPods or view the translated text on your iPhone, a function that you can already use in the translation app.
Languages that are supported
There is a good chance that LiveVertalen for AirPods will not be immediately available in Dutch. Based on other translation options, Apple will be possible at the start of German, English (VK, US), French (France), Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish (Spain).
iPhone required
The translation is done via the iPhone, not via the AirPods itself. An internet connection is probably required, but there is no official confirmation of that. In addition, it is likely that translating live for AirPods only works in combination with an iPhone that has Apple Intelligence. This is the iPhone 15 Pro (Max), iPhone 16 series or newer.
Translate live into messages, telephone and facetime
Not available in Dutch
Language barriers are a thing of the past with live translation. This feature helps you communicate in different languages, whether you send messages or talk to someone. Live translation is integrated in messages, Facetime and Phone, and is made possible by Apple models that run entirely on your own device, so all your conversations remain private.

In messages you can automatically translate messages with live translation. For example, if you want to meet with new people you have met on a trip, your messages will be translated while you type and displayed in the recipients’ preferred language. And when you receive a response, you can also have it translated immediately. In FaceTime interviews you can follow the translation via live captions while listening to the speaker. And when you call, you will hear the translation immediately during the conversation.
Live translation in messages is available in Chinese (simplified), German, English (VK, US), French (France), Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish (Spain). Live translation in telephone and Facetime is available for one -to -discussions in German, Engels (VK, US), Frans (France), Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish (Spain).
