Apple has already started preparations for iOS 26.4, because it will be an important iPhone update. This is why.
iOS 26.4
The official release of iOS 26 is only next month, but Apple is already working on iOS 26.4. The fourth version of iOS 26 will probably be an important update, which will make many new functions to the iPhone. This fits in line with previous software versions, so IOS 18.4 and iOS 17.4 were also major updates. With iOS 26 this is again the case, so that developers at Apple have already started preparing iOS 26.4.
With iOS 26.4, at least a series of new emoji comes to your iPhone. The new pictures have already been announced on Thursday, July 17, that is the official world emoji day. Your keyboard will be expanded with a trombone, treasure chest, distorted face, core of an apple, fighting cloud, ballet dancer, orca and bigfoot. Apple still has to adjust this emoji to its own design, which usually takes a few months.
Renewed version of Siri
It is expected that the new emoji with iOS 26.4 will be added to your iPhone, as Apple previously did with iOS 18.4 and iOS 17.4. This is not the only change in iOS 26.4, because Apple is still working on the renewed version of Siri. The company has major problems with the smarter variant of the speech assistant, which must be solved in a few months. For example, Tim Cook recently indicated that progression is being made in the development of Siri 2.0.
The new version of Siri is much smarter and better understands the context of certain assignments. In addition, the speech assistant gets access to more functions of applications, so that you can process multiple tasks in one assignment. This way you will soon be able to request Siri information about your flight and possibly add it to the AGENDA app. From iOS 26.4, Siri also communicates on your iPhone in a much more natural way, by supporting more language models.
Release of iOS 26.4
It is still unclear what changes Apple brings with iOS 26.4 even more to the iPhone. It is certain that it is a larger interim update than normal. Apple usually brings some minor improvements and problem solutions to the iPhone with an update such as iOS 26.1 and iOS 26.2. IOS 26.4 involves larger changes, including the renewed version of Siri and a series of emoji.
Siri 2.0 will at least be available in the United States with iOS 26.4, probably the Netherlands will follow later. We only know that in the spring of 2026, because then iOS 26.4 will appear.
