iPhone Air
During the ‘Awe Dropping’ event on September 9, Apple presented the thinnest iPhone ever: the iPhone Air! This new iPhone has appeared instead of the iPhone Plus and is therefore more or less the successor to the iPhone 16 Plus. The new iPhone is slightly smaller than its predecessor and especially much thinner, namely only 5.6 mm.
The Air is made of titanium and has Ceramic Shield 2-glass on both sides. This must ensure that the iPhone is strong enough despite the minimum thickness. Furthermore, the camera island is no longer in the top left corner, but it extends over the entire width of the device. The camera itself is still at the top left, the flash and the microphone have moved to the other side.
Screen
The screen of the iPhone Air measures 6.5 inches, which is barely smaller than the 6.7 inch of the iPhone 16 Plus (more or less the predecessor). It is a screen with promotion and an always-on function. This means that, among other things, the clock always remains visible, even when the iPhone is locked. To make this possible, the refresh rate has been increased to 120 Hz.
Performance and colors
‘Pastor’ iPhone 16 Plus has an A18 chip, the iPhone Air has no less than an A19 Pro chip. The A19 Pro processor is the most powerful iPhone chip so far, so the new thin iPhone is a lot faster than the iPhone 16 Plus. Furthermore, the iPhone Air has a new modem called C1X built by Apple, which is twice as fast as the C1. The iPhone Air is available in four different colors: black, white, light gold and light blue.
Camera
The iPhone Air has a single camera on the back. It is a 48-megapixel camera with a 12-megapixel telephoto lens so that you can make a cut-out without loss of quality. The 18-megapixel selfie camera supports Center Stage so that everyone automatically comes into the picture and you do not have to run the iPhone in landscape mode. Apple has also added the Dual Capture function, with which you use the front and back camera at the same time.
Duration
Apple indicates that despite the fact that the iPhone Air is so thin ‘the battery is’ all day long’ and that a full battery is good for 40 hours of video display. The iPhone Air only supports Esim to create as much space as possible for a larger battery.
iOS 26
The iPhone Air runs just like the entire iPhone 17 series on the new iOS 26. Apple calls the design of iOS 26 ‘Liquid Glass’. It therefore looks glassy, ​​with transparent frameworks, elements and widgets. You can also find the new design on the lock screen, the home screen, the desktop and the dock.
Buy iPhone Air and pre-order
The iPhone Air has a starting price of 1229 euros. That is with a storage space of 256 GB. For 512 GB you pay 1479 euros and 1 TB costs you 1729 euros. The pre-order starts up September 12 at 2:00 PM. If you order the device, you will receive it a week later (on Friday, September 19). On that day the entire iPhone 17 series also appears in the stores. Make sure you are on time. Certainly in the beginning the demand is high and the stock is limited!
