iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro: these are the improvements of the new Pro

Housing

Although the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro both have a screen of 6.3 inches, the dimensions still differ a little bit. The 16 Pro measures 149.6 x 71.5 x 8.25 mm, the 17 Pro 150.0 x 71.9 x 8.75 mm. In addition, the iPhone 17 Pro is also 5 grams heavier than the 16 Pro (204 g compared to 199 g). Furthermore, the frame of the iPhone 16 Pro is made of titanium and that of the 17 Pro of aluminum.

Screen

As mentioned, both screens are exactly the same size. That the new Pro does have Ceramic Shield 2, which has a 3 times better scratch resistance than that of the iPhone 16 Pro. Resolution and pixel density are also the same on both pro devices.

Camera

With the camera the differences are somewhat larger: the 16 Pro has a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel zoom camera and a 48-megapixel ultragro area camera. With the new Pro, the zoom camera is upgraded from 12 to 48 megapixels. This iPhone therefore has 3 different 48-megapixel cameras.

In addition, the selfie camera has also been improved: the iPhone 16 Pro has a copy of 12 megapixel, the 17 Pro has an 18-megapixel front camera to which Center Stage (also called the center) has been added. Thanks to that function you automatically keep yourself in the middle of the image.

Performance

We also see some differences between the two pro models in terms of performance. To begin with, the iPhone 16 Pro runs on an A18 Pro chip and the iPhone 17 Pro on an A19 Pro chip. The latter chip is a bit faster and also a bit more energy efficient, which is beneficial for the battery life.

In addition, there is a considerable difference in the amount of memory: the 16 Pro has to do with 8 GB, the 17 Pro has no less than 12 GB! Of course, both devices are fully prepared for Apple Intelligence. Incidentally, the 17 Pro is not available with 128 GB of storage space in contrast to the 16 Pro. The minimum amount is 256 GB.

Battery

The iPhone 17 Pro also has a more powerful battery than the iPhone 16 Pro: 3988 mAh compared to 3582 mAh. In combination with the more efficient processor, this also ensures a longer battery life. With the iPhone 17 Pro you can play video for up to 31 hours. The iPhone 16 Pro already stops playing after 27 hours of playing.

Conclusion: iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro

The iPhone 17 Pro has a number of improvements compared to the iPhone 16 Pro: a 48-megapixel zoom camera, an 18-megapixel selfie camera, a faster processor, a longer battery life and a lot more memory. Switching from a 16 Pro only makes sense if you find these things very important, because of course it is not that all these things in the 16 Pro are bad. On the new Pro they are just a bit better.

If you have an older device, the iPhone 17 Pro is of course a good idea. And if you want to save some money, the iPhone 16 Pro is also still a good option. It depends on how important you find all the improvements of the new Pro. Apple no longer sells the iPhone 16 Pro itself, but there are still plenty of places where you can purchase the device.
