Apple has made up the iPhone 17 so well that you have almost no reason this year to opt for a pro model. Yet that is not without reason.
iPhone 17 is very good
The new iPhones from 2025 have been in stores since Friday 19 September and have received many new functions. All devices are equipped with new processors and have improved cameras. This year, Apple not only gave the Pro models a major upgrade, the iPhone 17 has also become much better. The basic model has taken over many parts, which we saw earlier at the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The screen of the iPhone 17 has received a major upgrade. The phone has a 6.3-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. That means that the regular iPhone has for the first time in 2025 with Promotion and Always-on. Apple introduced these functions to the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2022, but remained exclusively for the Pro models in recent years. That will finally change with the regular iPhone of 2025.
More storage space and better cameras
The iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Pro Max already came up with 256 GB of storage space as standard. This year, Apple has implemented that improvement with all new iPhones, which gives you twice as much storage space with the iPhone 17 as standard. Fortunately we don’t see that in the price, because the iPhone has taken over the starting price of the iPhone 16. You pay € 969 for the regular iPhone of 2025.
In addition, the cameras on the front and back of the ‘normal’ iPhone have received a large upgrade. The phone has an 18-megapixel front camera, while with the iPhone 16 (Plus) and the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) it was still a 24-megapixel camera. At the rear, the iPhone 17 has a 48-megapixel head and ultra-wide angle lens. So you will only find 48-megapixel cameras on the back of the iPhone 17, just like with the iPhone 17 Pro (Max).
Not without reason
The iPhone 17 has received a number of important improvements, which means that many users no longer need iPhone Pro this year. The basic model is not inferior to the screen of the pro models and the missing telephoto lens is usually the least used camera. Yet it is not without reason that Apple has made the iPhone 17 so good. The company reportedly works on the iPhone 17th, which becomes the successor to the iPhone 16th.
The iPhone 17th becomes a cheaper and slimmed version of the iPhone 17, just like the iPhone 16th fog a number of functions of the iPhone 16. For example, the affordable iPhone has to charge wirelessly and do the ultra -wide angle lens without magsafe. The differences between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17th must become larger, so that Apple has chosen to make the iPhone 17 way too good.

It is expected that the iPhone 17th will be much less advanced than the iPhone 17. You don’t have to expect functions such as Promotion, Dynamic Island and the 18-megapixel front camera at the iPhone 17th. It is still unclear whether Apple also wants to make the price difference between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17th larger. The iPhone 16th costs no less than 719 euros at Apple, but is now available for € 561 at other providers.
The iPhone 17th only appears in the spring of 2026 and probably does not differ much from the iPhone 16th. Are you planning to get a new phone soon?
