iPhone Air vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge

Samsung and Apple have both released a thin smartphone in 2025: the Galaxy S25 Edge and the iPhone Air. Time to compare both devices to see which thin smartphone performs best.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge was released at the beginning of 2025 and has already become a lot cheaper. You now pay around 630 euros for it. The iPhone Air was only released in September and has hardly dropped in price yet. You currently pay €960 for it.

Housing

The first thing you notice when you see the iPhone Air and the Galaxy S25 Edge is that they are both very thin. At 5.6 mm, the iPhone Air is slightly thinner than the S25 Edge (5.8 mm). Otherwise, the Edge is not slightly larger than the Air: 158.2 x 75.6 mm compared to 156.2 x 74.7 mm. There is virtually no difference in weight: the Air weighs 165 grams and the Edge 163 grams. Both devices have a titanium frame and a glass back. The Edge has a nano SIM slot, the Air only works with an eSIM.

Screen

At 6.7 inches, the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Air is slightly larger than that of the iPhone Air (6.5 inches). As a result, the screens also have a different resolution: the iPhone has a resolution of 1260 x 2736 pixels, the Edge 1440 x 3120 pixels. Both devices also have a high maximum brightness: the Edge reaches a maximum of 2600 nits, the Air even at 3000 nits. This makes the screens always easy to read, even in direct sunlight. The iPhone also has an anti-reflective coating. Both screens have a refresh rate of 120 HZ, which ensures smooth scrolling, among other things.

Camera

The cameras of these two smartphones are quite different. The iPhone Air only has a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has one of no less than 200 megapixels. In addition, it also has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, something that the iPhone Air does not have at all. The Air does have a better selfie camera: an 18-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with Center Stage. The Galaxy S25 Edge has a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera on the front. In practice, both front cameras are excellent for selfies and video calling.

Performance

The S25 Edge runs on a fast Snapdragon 8 Elite and has 12 GB of RAM. The iPhone Air runs on an equally fast A19 Pro chip, also with 12 GB of RAM. That is the same processor that is also in the iPhone 17 Pro models. It is difficult to determine which processor is faster. In practice, you will notice that both devices are lightning fast, probably even faster than you really need. In any case, it makes for a very smooth experience.

Both the iPhone Air and the Galaxy S25 Edge are available with a minimum amount of storage of 256 GB. You can also opt for 512 GB, but only the iPhone is also available with 1 TB of storage space. Of course you also pay a lot more for that.

Battery

Since the S25 Edge is larger than the Air, it also fits a larger battery. This is also reflected in the capacity. The Galaxy has a 3900 mAh battery, the iPhone has to make do with a 3900 mAh battery. The iPhone is stuck at 3149 mAh at this point.

The battery life of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air is nevertheless quite comparable, although the iPhone Air performs better in tests. This is due to Apple’s efficient software optimization. You can watch up to 27 hours of video with the iPhone Air, slightly less with the Edge.
