This new feature immediately makes your iPad Pro a lot more powerful

iPadOS 26.1 is now available to everyone and brings a nifty new productivity feature to iPad Pro – Here’s what you need to know!

This new feature makes your iPad Pro more powerful

The new feature that iPadOS 26.1 brings to your iPad Pro is called Slide Over. That function was previously available in iPadOS 18, but was later removed by Apple. The Slide Over feature lets you slide an app window from the right side in front of the app you are currently working on. This way you can quickly do something in another app and then slide that app back. This is useful, for example, if you want to quickly send a message.

That’s how it works

To use the new Slide Over feature on your iPad Pro, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the app you want to use with Slide Over;

  2. Long press the green button at the top left until a menu appears;

  3. Tap ‘Open Slide Over’ in the menu;

  4. Now open the other app in full screen.

If you used the feature in iPadOS 18, you will notice a difference compared to Slide Over in iPadOS 26.1. It is no longer possible to stack multiple apps on top of each other. This is definitely a minus. Hopefully a future update will change this.

Better multitasking

The new Slide Over feature on the iPad Pro is certainly very useful. For example, you can not only keep an app such as Slack or Microsoft Teams in view in this way while you are working in another app, but also use it directly without having to switch completely.

Slide Over ensures that you can multitask better than ever on your iPad Pro. Hopefully, Apple will further develop this new feature for the iPad Pro in the future.
