Do you have trouble reading texts because of Liquid Glass since iOS 26? This way you can turn off Liquid Glass on your iPhone again!
Liquid Glass in iOS 26
This year, iOS 26 came to the iPhone! The most important part of iOS 26 is without a doubt the new interface, because Apple has introduced Liquid Glass on the iPhone. The new design has many more glass and transparent elements, making the operating system look completely different. For example, the background is more visible with notifications and almost all applications have a transparent menu bar.
However, not all users are enthusiastic about the more transparent interface. For example, certain menus, notifications and frames are less readable since the introduction of Liquid Glass. Apple has now adjusted the transparent elements several times and this is the case again in iOS 26.1. In the new software version, the iPhone gets an extra switch that makes Liquid Glass more transparent or less transparent.

This is how you disable Liquid Glass
Not enthusiastic about Liquid Glass? Or are you having trouble reading text on your iPhone since iOS 26? In that case, iOS 26.1 offers the solution, because from this software version you can disable Liquid Glass on the iPhone again. Apple has added an extra menu to the iPhone’s settings, where you can choose the display of Liquid Glass yourself. Are you curious where you can find the new position? This is how you adjust Liquid Glass:
- Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;
- Go to ‘Screen and brightness’;
- Tap ‘Liquid Glass’;
- Select a view of your choice.
You can choose between ‘Clear’ and ‘Tint’ when displaying Liquid Glass. With the former you see the standard view, with glass and transparent frames. Do you find that display difficult to read on your iPhone? Then choose ‘Tinted’, with this function you can turn off Liquid Glass. This option adds more contrast to the operating system, so that texts stand out more clearly. For example, notifications in the Notification Center will have a white background:

More about Liquid Glass
Disabling Liquid Glass is an important way to improve the readability and accessibility of the operating system. Due to the transparent and translucent elements, texts are no longer easy to read for all users. This is a useful new function, especially for users with a visual impairment. On the iPad and Mac, Apple introduced a similar option in iPadOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1.
Can’t find the extra menu in your iPhone’s settings? Then check whether your iPhone has been updated to the latest software version. Disabling Liquid Glass is part of iOS 26.1, so make sure you have the update installed on your iPhone. You can see this under ‘Settings > General > Software update’. Did you find this tip useful?
