While we’re all still talking about Pluribus, Apple had a lot more in store for us on Apple TV in 2025. We list the best series and films of the year for you.
Apple TV 2025: the best series and films
In 2025, the ‘Plus’ of the Apple TV Plus subscription will disappear. Although this has made the service a lot more confusing (the device and the app are now both called Apple TV), this does not take away from the good series and films that can be watched via the subscription. There is a good chance that you have missed something in the offer, so that is why we list the best series and films of the year. Ideal for the holidays!
10. F1 The Movie
F1 The Movie feels to a large extent like an advertisement for the real F1 races. Yet the film is wonderful, largely due to the two charismatic protagonists Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. One plays a veteran in the field who returns to the race track after thirty years. The other is a new talent. The film is a bit predictable, but so are the races it is based on.
9. Foundation (season 3)
Many streaming services would pull the plug on a series like Foundation because the first season turned out to be too complex and many viewers dropped out as a result. Apple chose to move on and thankfully so. Foundation is wonderful science fiction of the highest order.
8.The Lost Bus
In this true story, Matthew McConaughey plays a bus driver who risks his life to save a group of children from a devastating forest fire. That’s edge-of-your-seat television. An excellent combination of disaster film and human drama.
7. Murderbot
Actor Alexander Starsgård is great as a robot who has secretly become self-aware, but only uses it to binge soaps. Yet it is mainly the team of researchers he has to protect that makes the series so entertaining. Together they end up in one danger after another, while no one really knows what they are doing.
6. Down Cemetery Road
We can’t get enough of it Slow Horsesso what a treat that the makers had room for a second series. The result is Down Cemetery Road. The series is a lot less funny, but is once again carried by a veteran in the profession who plays a grumpy hero. This time it is Emma Thompson as a private detective who is brought into a mysterious and especially dangerous case by a mother (Ruth Wilson).
5. Mr. Scorsese
You know Martin Scorsese from countless top films, but what do you really know about him? In this well-made documentary series you delve into his personal life and get a behind-the-scenes look at his biggest films. In addition, the most important people in his life and from his films have their say, but mainly Scorsese himself tells his story. Mandatory reading for film buffs.
4. Slow Horses (season 5)
How we love watching this group of failed cops, who always save the day under the leadership of the farting Jackson Lamb. This season not only offers a new exciting and funny situation, but also deepens Lamb as a character. Extra good news is that the sixth and seventh seasons have already been filmed, so we haven’t gotten rid of these characters yet.
3. Severance (season 2)
There was a huge gap of almost three years between the first and second seasons of it Severancebut it was well worth the wait. The series about a mysterious company where employees keep their memories at work and outside of work separate, remains endlessly fascinating.
2. The Studio
TheStudio is possibly the biggest surprise of the year, because with Seth Rogen you’re never sure what you’re getting. In this case we got a hilarious, sharp series that makes fun of the film industry. The characters end up in hilarious situations that go on and on and therefore become funnier. The numerous cameos are also fun.
1. Pluribus
Of course, you could have expected a new series from Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) would be good, but Pluribus still manages to blow everyone away. Although most of the series consists of Carol desperately trying to save the world on her own, Rhea Seehorn’s acting and the amazing cinematography make it a joy to watch.
Apple has clearly put a lot of money aside for the series. Gilligan has used every cent of it to make the concept seem credible and sometimes go a step further than necessary. We are very curious to see where the story will go in the coming seasons, but if nothing happens in terms of plot, that is also fine.
