Although iOS 26 has only been around for a few months, there are already rumors of next-generation features – here’s what you can expect from iOS 27.
‘Snow Leopard’ update
iOS 27 is believed to focus on bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements to improve performance. So there won’t be many new features. It’s also called a “Snow Leopard” update because that was a version of macOS that Apple said didn’t include any new features because it just fixed the existing software. Apple engineers are currently looking into iOS 26 for bugs and other performance-impacting issues that can be fixed in iOS 27.

iPhone Fold
In 2026, Apple will launch the first foldable iPhone, which is rumored to be called the iPhone Fold. The iPhone Fold will likely have a screen of about 5.4 inches when folded closed and a screen of about 7.7 inches when opened like a book. It will be shorter and wider than other foldables on the market, with an aspect ratio of 4:3. When closed, the iPhone Fold’s outer screen is the smallest since the iPhone 13 mini’s screen.
With Apple moving back to a smaller screen while also introducing a 7.7-inch display that’s larger than any iPhone screen to date, some updates to iOS are needed. iOS 27 focuses on introducing new interfaces and experiences for a larger screen and a screen that can switch between multiple sizes.
5 new features of iOS 27
Here are five new features we expect with the arrival of iOS 27:
1.Liquid Glass
iOS 27 is likely to include refinements to it Liquid Glassdesign that Apple introduced with iOS 26. Some changes have already been made in the iOS 26.1 and iOS 26.2 updates, but iOS 27 gives Apple the opportunity to make bigger adjustments in response to customer feedback.
2. Apple Intelligence
A much smarter version of Siri is coming in the iOS 26.4 update scheduled for spring 2026, but more are likely to come Apple Intelligencefeatures in iOS 27. We don’t know details yet, but several existing Apple Intelligence features may be extended to other apps.
Apple is also working on a Siri search feature called ‘World Knowledge’ that will provide information about common searches. This feature is expected to be included in Siri’s iOS 26.4 update. If this feature is not included in iOS 26.4, the add-on Siri feature may be included in iOS 27 instead.
3. Siri
With iOS 27, Apple may update Siri’s design. There will be a major makeover in iOS 26.4, but a new visual look is reportedly planned for iOS 27. No details are known about what exactly the new design entails, but rumors about Apple’s upcoming tabletop robot suggest that the company is introducing a version of Siri that is more animated, similar to the Mac Finder logo. That more animated version of Siri may also come to the iPhone and iPad, probably in iOS 27.
4. Health+
Apple is developing a paid Health+ service with food tracking and medical advice. This may become part of iOS 27. The medical tool would explain various health statistics and trends from the Health app and provide personalized advice to improve health.
5. New satellite features
Apple is working on several new satellite features for the iPhone and it is possible that some features will be introduced as early as iOS 27. It is just unclear when Apple will implement the satellite improvements. In addition, behind-the-scenes updates are needed from Globalstar, Apple’s satellite partner.
Here are the rumors about the new satellite features:
- Apple Maps via satellite.
- Photos in Messages via Satellite.
- Satellite API framework for third-party apps.
- Satellite over 5G.
- Satellite connection without the sky having to be visible.
Some of these features may require new hardware, but options like Apple Maps via Satellite do not require additional components beyond what is currently available.
