Battery notifications for AirPods so you never forget to charge them again

Do you own AirPods? Then you have undoubtedly noticed that since iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and macOS 26, you have been receiving notifications about the battery status of your AirPods. The charging notifications are intelligent alerts that your iPhone or iPad sends to you when your AirPods battery reaches certain critical levels.

The function works in two ways. This way you will receive a notification when the battery of your AirPods is almost empty. You will also receive a notification when your AirPods are fully charged and you can remove them from the charger.

Battery notifications for AirPods

Since iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, AirPods users have received useful notifications about the battery status of their AirPods. These notifications are smart alerts that your iPhone or iPad sends to you when your AirPods’ battery is low. This way you will receive a notification when the battery is low and needs to be charged, even when you are not listening.

You will also receive a message when your AirPods are fully charged and you can remove them from the charger. The notifications appear on your screen and ensure that your listening experience is not interrupted by an empty battery.

Support AirPods charging notifications

Not all AirPods models have access to this useful feature. Apple has made charging notifications available for some specific generations:

  • AirPods Pro 3
  • AirPods Pro 2 (both versions – with Lightning and USB-C charging case)
  • AirPods 4 (ANC) (the version with Active Noise Cancellation)

Unfortunately, this function is not available for older models such as AirPods Pro 1 and AirPods 3. It is therefore important that you first check which model you have before assuming that you can use this feature.

Set battery notifications for AirPods

  • Connect your AirPods to your iPhone or iPad
  • Go to ‘Settings’
  • Tap the AirPods in the list
  • Scroll down and tap ‘Battery’
  • Enable the ‘Charging notifications’ option

On a Mac, it is not possible to receive a notification when your AirPods are fully charged. You will automatically see a notification of the battery status as soon as you connect the AirPods to your Mac.
