The most useful Apple Watch function is turned off by default – here’s how to turn it on

The Apple Watch has many smart settings, but the most useful function is turned off by default. This is how you enable the feature on your Apple Watch!

Useful Apple Watch feature

Your Apple Watch gains useful functions every year. With major updates such as watchOS 26, Apple brings improvements and new features to the Apple Watch. That’s not all, because Apple sometimes also removes parts from the smartwatch. This was the case with watchOS 10, Apple released this software version in 2023. The company removed an important setting from the Apple Watch that year. With watchOS 10, it was no longer possible to swipe across the Apple Watch screen to switch watch faces.

Apple received a lot of criticism after removing this setting in watchOS 10. The company therefore decided to bring back the function with an interim watchOS update. The handy Apple Watch function does not work in the same way, because you must first enable it in the watchOS settings. Do you regularly change the watch face on your Apple Watch? Then adjust the following settings on your smartwatch!

Switching dials

While in watchOS 9 and earlier you could easily switch the watch face by swiping across the screen, you have to enable this handy Apple Watch feature since watchOS 10. The feature is turned off by default on your Apple Watch, to prevent you from unintentionally switching the watch face. Do you have multiple watch faces that you use for different occasions? In that case, enable this option on your Apple Watch:

  1. Press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch;

  2. Open the Settings app;

  3. Scroll down and go to ‘Clock’;

  4. Turn on “Swipe to change watch faces.”

Have you activated the handy Apple Watch function? You can then switch the watch face again by simply swiping across the screen of your Apple Watch. To do that, go to the home screen of your Apple Watch and swipe left across the display. This will make different watch faces appear, so you can easily compare them. Have you found a suitable watch face? Then stop swiping, the watch face will then be automatically set on your Apple Watch.
