Software Updates 27 for iPhone, iPad, and Mac introduce three new features to the Reminders app. These updates significantly simplify the creation and management of reminders using Apple Intelligence and provide improved list management capabilities.
One of the most notable innovations is natural language recognition; you can formulate reminders in plain text and Apple Intelligence automatically handles all metadata processing. In addition, the app includes an improved metadata editor within the lists and a smart shopping list that automatically sorts items based on the layout of the supermarket.
Apple Intelligence in Reminders
Not yet in Dutch
Siri already made it easy to add reminders, but iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate go one step further. Apple Intelligence now analyzes full natural language descriptions and automatically generates all relevant details into the appropriate metadata. This allows you to easily and quickly add a reminder to the app without manually selecting all the items, although this option still remains available.

For example, you type: “Remind me to take the kids to Pixie’s birthday party on Thursday at 2 p.m.” The app automatically recognizes:
- The type of reminder: activity
- The time: 2:00 PM
- The day: Thursday
- The context: Pixie birthday party
This functions in a similar way to the Calendar app, where you can enter “Cinema with Sarah at 8pm on Thursday” and Apple Intelligence will automatically recognize the date, time and subject.
Improved metadata editor within lists
When adding a new Reminder, you can add a new part directly from the overview. While you are entering data, various shortcuts will appear below the text to further configure the Reminders. Update 27 shows all metadata options in a new view presented around your active memory. This new user interface is significantly more extensive than the versions before it.

Available metadata options in the new editor
- Date: Set when the reminder should appear
- Time: exact time of the notification
- Urgent: mark as important task
- Repeat: daily, weekly or monthly reminder
- Location: notification upon arrival/departure at a certain location
- Tags: categorize with labels
- Flag: Visually mark for quick identification
- Camera: add image directly to reminder
The editor is more intuitive than before; you see all options right next to or below your reminder without having to open additional screens. Changing from “every week” to “every two weeks” will automatically be intelligently applied to all future reminders, similar to the Calendar app.
Smart shopping list
In Software Update 27, Apple significantly improved the smart shopping list in the Reminders app by integrating more advanced AI models. Previously, the app sometimes had difficulty correctly categorizing specific products, but the updated version now understands contextual input much better.
When you enter ingredients or household items, the app immediately recognizes which store categories they fit into, such as fruit and vegetables, dairy or frozen, automatically and logically organizing your list without you having to manually create categories yourself.

In addition, this smart sorting function has been expanded in the update with broader international support and improved language processing. This means that the automatic categorization now works more smoothly in multiple languages at the same time, which is ideal if, for example, you have foreign product names or ingredients for vegetarian recipes used interchangeably.
