During the month of July, sales figures started a cautious recovery, but unfortunately August is unable to consolidate that success. This month broke many a weather record, but with a minus of more than 21 percent, August 2020 was a weak period for the car industry.
26,461 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands last August, compared to 33,724 in the same month last year, according to the monthly figures published by Bovag and RAI Association on Tuesday. So a minus of 21.54 percent. Well, much of the revival in July was not due to a reviving desire to buy, but due to backlogs due to factory closures, so this decline does not come as a surprise. Cumulatively we are now at -25.22 percent.
Fortunately, things did not go bad everywhere. Delivery was particularly rapid at Kia, a quarter more than in the same period last year. These were mainly Niros, more than half of which were electric. But Picantos are also in demand at the moment. Volkswagen, Ford and Toyota are the top ten brands that have to take a lot of money.
