In the first eight months of this year, 40,427 new vans were sold, a decrease of 27.6 percent from the same period a year earlier.
Bovag and data provider RDC announced this on Monday. Last year the counter stood at 55,836 copies at the end of August. The number of registrations of new delivery vans has been lower than in 2019 throughout the year and August was no exception. Last month, 4,919 units were registered, a drop of 17.6 percent compared to last year. May was the worst month for the time being, with a sales decline of 51 percent.
Bovag is not counting on a recovery of the commercial vehicle market this year. “The corona crisis could throw an even more spanner in the works in the remainder of 2020, as the corporate market is currently tightening up,” said the trade association. The second-hand market for vans was on the rise until August. Sales increased by 2 percent to 75,423 copies.
