Maserati announces SUV under Levante

With the introduction of the all-new MC20, Maserati has given the clearest starting shot in years of a new model offensive. This not only includes an extensive electrification strategy, but also a brand new second SUV!

Last night Maserati introduced the impressive MC20 to the world, a brand new supercar with a special powertrain that includes a completely new V6. A fully electric version of the MC20 will eventually also be available, but there is more interesting Maserati news in the barrel. For example, the brand confirms with the trident that it will eventually expand its model range with a new, second SUV!

Maserati added the Levante to its delivery range in 2016, the brand’s first ever SUV to boost sales alongside cars like the Ghibli. It clearly does not stop with one SUV, Maserati reports the arrival of a second high-legged one. That new, second SUV will be a size smaller than the Levante and will possibly be comparable in size to cars like the Stelvio of stable mate Alfa Romeo.

We immediately have a name: Grecale. The Grecale, named according to tradition after a strong wind, in this case a strong northeasterly wind around the Mediterranean Sea, has a major role to play. The fact that the Grecale under the Levante gets a place in the Maserati range undoubtedly means that the new SUV will be a bit more accessible than the Levante in terms of price. That will do the Maserati sales figures in the long run nothing but good.

Maserati Grecale

Of course it does not stop with the launch of the MC20 and the arrival of the Grecale. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio are not forgotten either. That pair is succeeded by a completely new generation of GranTurismo and GranCabrio, models that will be available purely with an electric powertrain. Maserati is therefore strongly committed to electrification. Folgore is the name of the brand’s electrification strategy, a strategy of which the Ghibli Hybrid presented this year was the first concrete expression. Given Maserati’s strong focus on electrification, it is likely that the Grecale will also have one or more electrified versions. On to the future!

Personalization

With an extensive personalization program, you as a brand can not only satisfy your picky customers, but there are also substantial profit margins. It is therefore not surprising that Maserati has expanded its new Fuoriserie program considerably. Every customer can compose their Maserati extensively in a ‘car tailoring’ shop in Maserati’s home base Modena. To give the buyer something of a grip within the thousands of possible combinations, according to Maserati, Maserati proposes three basic collections of its models: Corse, Unica and Futura. Versions that can of course be completely tailored to your own taste.
